Are you a club and do I have to join to fly?
We are part of the Bury Metro Model Flying Club and as such we are affiliated to the British Model Flying Association Club No.0523. But you do not have to join to fly with us as a guest. However we would be happy to have you join and take advantage of our other flying sites wihin the Greater Manchester area and of course as a full member you can race for free!
Do I need to be insured?
Yes it is mandatory. Full members are insured through the club via BMFA however if you are guest and you can provide us with a valid certificate of insurance you can race. If you do not have insurance we can provide it to first time guests through the BMFA. The Raceway is covered by the BMFA employers liability insurance to £5m
Do I need to hold any BMFA certificates?
What are the costs involved to race?
Whilst we are a "Not for Profit" organisation we do have a small overhead in running the site.
We therefore charge £10 per race day to guests. If you join the club to fly FPV quads ONLY then there is an annual charge of £35 but the race day rate reduces to £5.00. If you join the club as a full member you can then take advantage of all our facilities and the annual charge is £50 but racing is free!
Are there any age restrictions?
We have a minimum age of 14 years to race providing a responsible supervising adult is present. We have a Child Protection Policy in place and take responsibility for the protection of children very seriously. We require written permission from parents that the child is being supervised by an acceptable adult.
Answers to some of your questions
If your question doesn't appear here don't worry please email using our contact page
Absolutely not! The BMFA Achievment Scheme is not a mandatory qualification in any area of model flying. It is merely to prove that you have reached a level of competance and understand the laws that apply to model flying and safety.
